The Early Intervention Department at the Muskingum County Board of Developmental
Disabilities is working under the guidance of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health
Department, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention regarding Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Our department and agency rely on
these agencies for guidance relating to health and well-being procedures.
The situation around the international outbreak of COVID-19 continues to develop. Visit
http://www.zmchd.org/coronavirus-disease/ for up-to-date local information on COVID-19.
To help prevent infection with coronaviruses and other illnesses, take the precautions you
normally would during cold and flu season:
• Wash your hands often for 20 seconds with soap and water. If unavailable, use an alcohol-
based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. This is a great time to show children proper
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
• Avoid close contact (touching or shaking hands) with people who are sick. Avoid touching your
eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then
throw the tissue in the trash.
• When a member of your family is ill, deciding whether to keep your scheduled appointment is
not always an easy decision. We want to keep our scheduled visits whenever possible while also
protecting the health and safety of the other children and families we visit throughout the day.
Our staff visit several children in one day, some who are considered medically fragile. For
children who are medically fragile, contracting a virus can be life-threatening. We appreciate
your help in this effort.
We will continue to closely monitor this situation. The health of your family and our staff
remains our top priority. Early Intervention staff are trained on Universal Precautions and
infection control practices upon hire and at a minimum, annually. We will continue to keep our
staff updated and trained as this situation changes. Call Zanesville-Muskingum County Health
Department at 740-454-9741 with additional health and safety questions, and check their
website http://www.zmchd.org/ for regular updates.
If you have questions please contact the Early Intervention staff or call the Administrative Office.
