Hundreds of students and parents gathered on April 13th for a day to "Celebrate Success" on the OUZ / Zane State Campus. Speakers from the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, Ohio Means Jobs, and the Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities - Starlight Programs talked about how they can help students prepare for the future and assist those who want a job to gain the skills to be successful. Many students expressed their dreams and the types of jobs they would like to have when they get out of school. Some of the students shared their interests in wanting to be a "mechanic", "school teacher", "police officer", "fire-fighter" as well as many other careers. The panelists which included individuals with developmental disabilities who are employeed in the community shared how they obtained their current positions and discussed the skills needed to maintain their employment. The employers on the panel shared their positive experiences and perspectives with hiring an individual with a disability. It was a great day filled with breathtaking stories.
