Celebrate Inclusion

In 1987, President Ronald Reagan made a public proclamation that the month of March should be recognized as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to “increase public awareness of the needs and potential of Americans with developmental disabilities.  While we have always aimed to increase public awareness, our focus has shifted to the importance of inclusion and living life side by side. Powered by the energy of self-advocates, families and volunteers around the country, this month commemorates the progress toward improving the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and recognizes the challenges that remain in achieving full inclusion for all people. During this month, we want people to share their stories, photos, and resources far and wide to expand the conversation of inclusion and accessibility.

The Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities – Starlight Programs supports infants, toddlers, teens, adults and seniors with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Our caring staff and our outstanding partners support more than 500 individuals throughout the county with a broad range of innovative and effective programs and services  that foster independence, productivity, and participation in community life.

The County Board recognized their five Welcome Hayes Outstanding Partner of the Year recipients at their recent community luncheon.  Congratulations to Coconis Furniture, Subway, The Fuse Network, RHDD and the American Legion.
