The Carr Center plays an integral part in making a positive impact in Muskingum County. One of the many programs they offer is their Adult Day Services, through which they support 5 adults with developmental disabilities.
2020 presented new challenges for all of us as we faced COVID-19; however, The Carr Center shined even through the difficulties that were handed to them. The Adult Day Services program closed their doors from March to September of 2020. In this time, individuals and families continued to be gratified by how The Carr Center staff stayed connected and showed them support. One of the many ways they did so was through delivering care packages to homes.
In talking with those supported – as well as staff in our Community Services building – The Carr Center staff were described as kind, helpful, patient, and collaborative. One of our Service and Support Administrators (SSAs) shared about the relationship between someone she supports and Marty Gamble (Director of Nursing). She spoke to the incredible relationship they’ve built, and how Marty goes above and beyond to help support this gentleman – including being someone to talk to in the evenings and on weekends, as well as cutting his hair.
In talking with Marty about what they do and how they’ve been impacted over the past year, he simply wanted to thank the Co. Board for all of their support – especially through COVID-19. He explained the challenges that arose from being off for 6 months – both for him and their staff, and for the people they support. Marty talked to how amazed he was by the resilience shown by everyone, and to how well everyone’s adjusted to the new day-to-day routines and protocols to best ensure health and safety.
It is evident that the staff and individuals at The Carr Center care for one another like family. Individuals that we support speak to how much they love and look forward to going, and families and caregivers echo this. We are so proud and thankful to be able to collaborate with The Carr Center, and it is an honor to recognize them as our Outstanding Community Partner.
